Hazardous Chemicals EHS Consultancy is headed up by Margaret Fitzgerald who is a Chartered Chemist (CChem) with the Royal Society of Chemistry in London, has chartered status (CMIOSH) with the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health in the UK and is also a UK qualified lawyer.

Prior to becoming a consultant Margaret worked for the United Nations’ International Maritime Organization (IMO) developing mandatory international legislation on the carriage of dangerous goods worldwide (the IMDG Code), the requirements for the safe carriage of bulk cargoes (the IMSBC Code), the transport requirements for the safe transport of dangerous goods in port areas and worked on the International Convention on Liability and Compensation for Damage in Connection with the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances by Sea, 1996 (the HNS Convention).

Margaret subsequently worked for the Dangerous Substances Department within the Health & Safety Authority transposing the DGSA Directive into national legislation and developing its’ associated examination scheme. Margaret was also involved in the on-going development of the ADR legislation. She has authored a number of dangerous goods training materials and has provided dangerous goods and DGSA training to a number of shipping companies, freight forwarding companies, pharmaceutical companies and chemical companies worldwide.

As a qualified lawyer Margaret has been involved in a number of high profile cases involving dangerous goods including the HANJIN PENNYSYLVANIA, DG HARMONY and the MSC FLAMINIA.

Margaret is a qualified Dangerous goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) and an expert member of the longstanding International Technical Panel of ICHCA, the International Cargo Handling Coordination Association.
